Ozarks Has Close Match In ASC Opener

Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles (2-2-1), (0-0-1) played their American Southwest Conference opener against Austin College on Friday afternoon under rainy conditions at Hurie Field and ended Friday's match with a 1-1 tie after two overtimes.

Ricky Herrera’s 47th career goal tied the match with less than six minutes left in regulation. Herrera took the pass from junior Ryan Pierson and hit the shot from 15 yards out to send the Ozarks crowd into a frenzy. The two teams battled throughout two scoreless overtimes to each end with their first tie of the young season. Austin (2-2-1), (0-0-1) would take the lead in the first half after Jerold Murrell’s goal in the 66th minute.The Eagles again dominated the match having out shot Austin 24-10 and recording 14 shots on goal. The Eagles have out shot their opponents 47-22 in their last two matches. Junior Justin Goodman had a team-best six shots on the day. Junior goalkeeper Chris Schultz had six saves in the match. Ozarks will travel to Tyler, Texas, to face UT-Tyler September 19.
