Clarksville, Ark.-The U of O men's soccer team was impressive in their exhibition match Saturday against Ouachita Baptist University posting a 2-0 win.
Junior midfielder Shaun Keane highlighted the offensive attack for the Eagles with a pair of first half goals. Keane’s first goal came in the 33rd minute 15 yards out. Josh Duncan received the assist. His second goal would come just five minutes later when he connected on a penalty kick.
“This was a good start to the season,” said head coach John Cossaboon. “It was nice to see how we competed. We played a balanced game and did well going forward throughout the match. We had a quality defensive effort as a team.”
Austin Benner played the entire 90 minutes in goal to record a shutout. He compiled three saves.
Ozarks dominated the match in its offensive attack, recording 13 shots, eight of which came in the first half. Ouachita Baptist University, an NCAA II institution, recorded just five shots in the match. Keane, Thomas Mills and Eloy Salgado tallied three shots apiece.
Cossaboon was able to play a number of players during the exhibition and was happy with his team’s effort the entire match.
“I thought one of the noticeable strengths was our consistency for 90 minutes in this type of weather,” said Cossaboon.
The Eagles will open the season August 31 at home against Westminster College at 1:00 pm.
