University of the Ozarks Professor of Mathematics Dr. Matt Myers has announced he will retire at the end of the 2023 Spring Semester after a 21-year career at the University.

Myers said he is stepping down to due to a family hardship and will serve as the primary caregiver to his daughter, Rachel, who is recovering in Arizona from a sledding accident earlier this year.

“I am thankful for the productive career I have had at U of O and I am sad that family hardships have led me to depart at this early date,” Myers said. “I will always remember the relationships I have made with faculty, staff, administration, and especially students at this institution.”

Myers, who earned his doctorate from Mississippi State University, was hired as an assistant professor of mathematics at Ozarks in August of 2002. He was promoted to associate professor and granted tenure in 2008 and was promoted to full professor in 2014.

“I chose to work at U of O because I wanted to do more than just teach mathematics,” Myers said. “I wanted to have an overall impact on students’ lives by fostering a love of learning, and helping guide them into careers that would contribute to a fulfilled life. I knew this goal required more than just my input, but U of O, with its committed faculty and staff, allowed me to achieve my goals with many of the students I mentored. In turn, these same individuals have been impactful in my life, helping me to be a better teacher, mentor, and person. I will miss my time at U of O, but I know that this institution will continue to have a positive impact on students for years to come.”
