Longview, Texas- LeTourneau University scored a run off of two Ozarks? errors in the sixth inning and then held off a ninth inning push from the Eagles to take a 1-0 win in American Southwest Conference play Friday night.
The game proved to be a pitcher’s duel between Ozarks’ starter Jeffrey Works and LeTourneau starter Curt Copeland. The two allowed a combined three walks and nine hits. Works was not charged with an earned run.
LeTourneau (16-11, 6-7 ASC) took advantage of two outfield errors to score what would be the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Both errors were committed with two outs on the board.
Ozarks (13-17, 2-8 ASC) recorded two of its five hits in the top of the ninth. Freddy Prince led off with a double and Sam Shook followed with a single to put runners at the corners. However, with no outs, Copeland forced back-to-back infield pop outs and then got an infield grounder to end the threat.
Works falls to 1-4. He struck out three and gave up just four hits.
Prince and Tony Morales each went 2-for-4.
Ozarks will conclude its series with LeTourneau tomorrow in a double-header beginning at 1:00 p.m.
