Lady Eagles Split With UT-Dallas

Clarksville, Ark.-The U of O Lady Eagles (14-16, 7-13) softball team grabbed a 2-0 win over the UT-Dallas Lady Comets (12-13, 11-9) in Richardson, Texas, on Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action.

Ozarks scored one run in both the fourth and seventh innings while pitcher Amanda Luney (7-8) controlled the Lady Comets’ offensive for the entire game to secure the win. Aime Jondro scored on a single by Leigh Thompson to give Ozarks a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Sarah Fielder would reach on single to left field and then steal second to put herself in scoring position. Devon Bottoms promptly singled in Fielder for the second run of the game for the Lady Eagles. Shannon Rainbolt led the team with two hits and is now batting a team-best .347 and has recorded 35 hits. Luney received the win after pitching a shutout. The Lady Eagles fortunes turned sour in the second contest as they dropped a 6-5 game to the Lady Comets despite holding a 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. Ozarks was first to get on the board after Fielder knocked in Jamie Johnson. Ozarks would tack on two more runs in the sixth inning to take a 3-2 going into the bottom half of the inning. UT-Dallas would match Ozarks scoring output with two runs of their own in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead going into the final inning of play. The Lady Eagles would rally for two runs in the top of the seventh when pitcher Brandi Blake recorded a two-RBI double. The Lady Comets, however, managed to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the comeback victory. Rainbolt and Blake each tallied two hits apiece to lead Ozarks. Blake (7-8) received the loss. Ozarks will host North Arkansas College April 15 in a double-header beginning at 2 p.m.
