Clarksville, Ark.-The U of O women?s soccer team is off to its best start since 1998.

The Lady Eagles (2-0-0) took an exciting 2-1 win against Hendrix College Tuesday to remain unbeaten on the season. The 1998 team started 4-0-0 before suffering its first loss. Against Hendrix (1-2-0), Ozarks went ahead 1-0 on Vicky Romero’s second goal of the season. Her goal in the 36th minute came on an assist from Monica Seiler. Romero beat Hendrix goalkeeper Rachel Zweig to fuel the team in the second half. With the score even at 1-1, Ozarks took the lead for good when freshman Frances Adams rebounded a ball off a corner kick in the 82nd minute. Brooke Tralmer received the assist.

Mary Eoff was tough in goal for the Lady Eagles as she recorded 13 saves. Eoff thwarted a number of Hendrix shots late in the match to secure the win.

“The team’s performance was fabulous today,” said head coach Bryan Drotar. “These early two wins are an emotional boast for us. And the momentum it brings is huge. I thought Mary had a great game. She was injured her freshman year against Hendrix so she was ready to play today. She brings so much leadership and energy.”

Adams and Haley Gilliam each had two shots in the match.

The Lady Eagles will face Stephens College September 6 and Westminster College September 7 on the road.
