Clarksville, Ark. --- Dody Pelts, Assistant Director and Diagnostic Specialist?in the university's Jones Learning Center, will lead a breakout session entitled "Small Changes, Big Results" at the annual conference of the Learning Disabilities Association of Arkansas (LDAA).
Designed to help parents, teachers and other professionals learn more about the latest treatment and teaching strategies for children with learning disabilities, the LDAA conference will be held on September 24 at the Wyndham Riverfront in North Little Rock. More than 200 administrators, educators, special educators, reading specialists, academic therapists, speech-language pathologists, parents and individuals with learning disabilities are expected to attend.
Dody Pelts, Assistant Director and Diagnostic Specialist in the Jones Learning Center, will lead a breakout session entitled "Small Changes, Big Results" at the annual conference of the Learning Disabilities Association of Arkansas (LDAA).
In her session, Pelts will give specific tips to help students with Attention Deficit Disorder improve their organization, time-management and test-taking skills.
"Many times small modifications can lead to dramatic improvements in the behavior and achievement of students with attention deficit disorder," Pelts said. "We have observed that the tactics I’ll be discussing at the conference drastically increase the success our students experience in the classroom. It is exciting to be able to share our knowledge with others who may benefit from these strategies."
Other breakout sessions will include Let’s Work on Working Memory, presented by Anise Flowers, Ph.D., Pearson Clinical Assessment; Preparing Students with Learning Disabilities for the Higher Education Setting, presented by Doris L. Pierce, M. S., Coordinator of Disability Services, Pulaski Technical College; and Understanding IQ, presented by Dr. Sabine Falls, Ph. D., Clinical Psychologist, ACCESS.
The keynote speaker for this year’s conference will be Dr. Larry B. Silver, M.D., a nationally recognized child and adolescent psychiatrist who has a private practice in the Washington, D.C. area.
Educators, parents and students with learning disabilities or AD HD who are interested in the Jones Learning Center are encouraged to attend the conference and speak with Pelts in person. Materials from her breakout session will be posted on the Jones Learning Center section of the university website after the conference.
