As part of the senior capstone project for his strategic communication major, Max Hilgendorf has organized a new 5K race and 1-mile fun run for the Clarksville area on Saturday, April 19.

The Fort Smith, Ark., native has competed on the University’s cross country team and has spent the last two summers interning with the Little Rock Marathon. He wanted to utilize some of his experience and skills to benefit the Clarksville community.

"I’ve been thinking about coordinating a 5K for a while," Hilgendorf said. "With my experience as a runner, my work with the Little Rock Marathon, and my connections with the Clarksville-Johnson County Chamber of Commerce, a 5K just seemed to make sense as a way to give back to the community. When I found out I could use the 5K as the capstone project for my strategic communication major, that was just a bonus."

The Bunny Hop 5K is being presented by Clarksville-Johnson County Chamber of Commerce, while the Ozarks Student Athlete Advisory Committee is sponsoring the 1-mile fun run/walk.

"All proceeds from the event will go toward the Clarksville Downtown Development Committee for revitalizing and beautifying Historic Downtown Clarksville as well as to the Johnson County Helping Hands, a local charity organization that provides a variety of aid and service to those in need," Hilgendorf explained.

The race is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, at the downtown square in Clarksville. There is a $20 registration fee before the race, with the price increasing to $30 on race day.

"There is a $5 discount for U of O students, faculty and staff with a discount code available in the Student Life Office," Hilgendorf said.

Anyone interested in registering should visit the race’s Facebook page at Facebook.com/BunnyHop5KClarksville or contact Hilgendorf at max.runnerman@gmail.com.
