Senior art major Jose Carranza, from Grecia, Costa Rica, will display his fashion photography exhibit "Oddness" from May 5-9 in the Stephens Gallery, located in the Walton Fine Arts Center.
Carranza characterized his photography exhibit as "unexpected, exciting and glamorous."
"My inspiration derives from my fascination for fashion garments, the texture, color and shapes of fabrics, and the diverse arrangements that can be achieved with different pieces of clothing," he explained in his artist’s statement.
The Oddness collection features only one model, with limited emotional expression, which Carranza explains helps to keep the focus of the photographs on the garments themselves.
"A single piece of clothing will either contrast with the rest of the elements within the picture or it will completely fuse with them. I use one single model throughout the collection to reinforce my perception that fashion has a unique way of creating different characters through the combination of different pieces of clothing. Her poses and expressions, characterized by a lack of emotion, help to focus the attention on the garments," Carranza said.
The gallery is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the week. There is no charge for admission.
A reception to meet the artist will be held in the gallery on Sunday, May 5, at 6 p.m.
