Clarksville, Ark. -- Artist Nancy S. Farrell of Ozark, Ark., will display her watercolors exhibit Views of the South as the University of the Ozarks' Artist of the Month for March.

Farrell, who taught art at U of O from 1988 to 1996 and at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La., from 1996 to 2006, recently moved back to Arkansas. She currently teaches art at Arkansas Tech University. Farrell said her paintings draw inspiration from her time in Clarksville and Lake Charles. “During the eight years in Clarksville, I was inspired by the beautiful mountains and the change of seasons,” she said. “In Louisiana, I was fascinated by the culture, the shrimp boats, the Southern architecture, the beautiful tropical plants and flowers of the Gulf Coast and Texas. This exhibit includes some of my views of the South and reflects some of the experiences I had while living there.” Farrell earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and her master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Illinois. She was one of the founding members of the Arkansas Committee for the National Museum for Women in Art in Washington, D.C. She is also a member of the Mid-Southern Watercolor Society, Louisiana Watercolor Society and Watercolor Association of Houston. Her work is in permanent collections in Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri and Oklahoma. Farrell’s exhibit will be on display in the Stephens Gallery on the U of O campus from March 5-31. There will be Reception to Meet the Artist from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 8, in the gallery, which is located in the Walton Fine Arts Center.
