Eagles Fall To Texas Lutheran

Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles (4-3, 0-2) dropped two games to Texas Lutheran (8-0, 2-0) on Saturday in American Southwest Conference play at Hurie Field. Ozarks and Texas Lutheran will play on Sunday, March 1, in one nine-inning game beginning at 1:00 p.m.

The Eagles nearly pulled off major upsets in each game as the country’s #19 ranked Bulldogs came from behind in each game to gain victories. Texas Lutheran pulled out a 7-5 win in the first game and a 7-4 win in the second contest. Ozarks held a 3-0 lead going into the fourth inning of the first game before the Bulldogs scored seven runs in the next three innings of play. Clint Phifer led the charge with two hits and two RBI. Justin Dixon (1-1) received the loss. The second game saw the Bulldogs again storm back from a 4-0 deficit and eventually take the lead after scoring three runs in the sixth inning. The Eagles started the game strong by racking up two runs in the first and third innings. Clint Phifer smacked a home run in the third inning with Todd Vandevoir on base to give the Eagles a commanding lead 4-0. Phifer had two hits and two RBI. Anthony Brandon recorded two RBI and Vandevoir tallied two runs. Phifer improved his batting average to .458 on the year. Trevor Holbert (1-1) received the loss.
