Eagles Blast Elmhurst

Clarksville, Ark.-A balanced offensive attack pushed the Eagles past Elmhurst College, 10-7, in non-conference action on Monday afternoon at Hurie Field.

The Eagles (11-11, 1-5) got 16 hits from ten different players and broke their four-game losing streak with the win. Ozarks scored four runs in the bottom of the first on five hits. Justin Brown started the scoring blitz when he singled in Brett Hays from second base. Anthony Brandon slugged his second homer of the season scoring Brown and gave the Eagles a 3-1 advantage. Tyler Gideon slapped a single to left field and knocked in Sean Pratt to give Ozarks their final run of the inning. The Eagles increased their lead to 8-2 when they scored three in the bottom of the fourth. Clint Phifer recorded two RBI when he knocked in Brown and Caleb Hilton with no outs in the fourth. Ozarks added one more when Pratt reached base on a fielder’s choice RBI. Elmhurst (5-3) did climb to within three runs when they scored two runs in the eighth. However, the Bluejays were unable to overcome Ozarks’ solid day at the plate as the Eagles went 16-for-36 (.444). Brown had his best day of the season going 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Brandon led the team with 3 RBI. Brandon, Gideon and Kerry Shirley each had two hits in the contest. T.J. Eason (2-1) received the win after pitching three and one-third innings. Eason struck out five. Ozarks travels to Sherman, Texas, to face Austin College in a three-game series beginning on March 26 with a nine-inning game. The series will continue on March 27 with a double-header beginning at 1 p.m.
