Clarksville, Ark.-Darren Clark scored two goals for the second straight match to help the University of the Ozarks men's soccer team to a 4-1 American Southwest Conference victory over Schreiner University on Friday.
Ozarks improves to 13-4-0 overall and 8-2-0 in the ASC, while Schreiner falls to 2-10-1 and 1-8-1.
Clark scored in the 10th and 71st minutes, bringing his season goal total to 9 and career total to 13. On Clark’s first goal, Shaun Renfro received the assist after he sent a corner kick that ended up rolling to Clark. Renfro, who totaled four points in the match, then scored on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute to give Ozarks a 2-0 advantage. Schreiner closed the gap to 2-1 when they scored with 47 seconds left in the first half. However, the Eagles answered with a Matt Engelman goal in the 59th minute. Brandon VanCleave received the assist. Renfro then found Clark again in the 71st minute to increase Ozarks’ lead to 4-1.
Ozarks out shot their opponent 18-8. Renfro had five shots to lead the team, four of which were on shots on goal. Brian Sarber had three saves in goal for the Eagles.
Ozarks will host Texas Lutheran University on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in what is designated as “Senior Day.” All five seniors will be recognized prior to their match.
