Clarksville, Ark. --- Dr. John Paul Johnson, professor of music and director of choral activities at the University of Kansas, worked with the University of the Ozarks Chorale and the Chamber Singers on Feb. 12-13, on the U of O campus.
The U of O ensembles benefited greatly from Dr. Johnson’s comments as they prepared for their annual Spring Tour, according to Dr. Mikael Lindstrom, U of O’s director of chorale activities. Dr. Lindstrom praised Ozarks’ students for their eagerness to learn. “When I stepped in front of the ensembles, they were open and willing to try hard to do what I asked,” Johnson said of the U of O choirs. “This is rather unusual in clinic work.” While in Clarksville, Johnson also had an opportunity to visit Clarksville High School choirs and work with them on their preparation for the upcoming Arkansas Choral Performance Assessment. “Dr. Johnson, our gracious and wonderful clinician, said Clarksville was based with good music-making,” Lindstrom said. “We will do our best to uphold and build on that standard.” Johnson, who earned his master’s degree and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, has taught at KU since 2002. He previously taught at the Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He has served as conductor, clinician or adjudicator for more than 400 events throughout the United States, Europe and the Caribbean.
