Clarksville, Ark. --- The University of the Ozarks' top musical ensemble, the Chamber Singers, will perform at several churches in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas in April as part of the university's 2010 Spring Choir Tour.
U of O Assistant Professor of Music Dr. G. Mikael Lindström will direct the Ozarks Chamber Singers during its three-state, 12-concert tour.
Lindström, who earned his doctorate in musical arts from the University of North Texas, serves as the director of choral activities at U of O. Anna Young, a senior music major at Ozarks, will serve as pianist and rehearsal accompanist during the tour, and Dawn Dvoracek, director of church relations at Ozarks, will serve as tour organizer.
The 2010 Spring Tour will begin in Dallas, Texas, with an evening performance on Friday, April 9, at Presbyterian Village North and a Saturday, April 10, afternoon concert at Grace Presbyterian Village. A community concert will be also held on Saturday, April 10, at the First Presbyterian Church in Grapevine, Texas, followed the next day by the Chamber Singers participating in the Sunday morning worship services at the church at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. The tour will include visits to churches in Morrilton, Ark.; and McAlester, Okla., as well three performances in Munger Chapel on the U of O campus, including the Homecoming Concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 22. The tour will conclude with worship service at First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville on Sunday, April 25.
Among the selections the groups are expected to perform are: Introit: Adoro te and Veni Sancte Spiritus an improvisation on two Gregorian chant melodies; Veni Creator Spiritus by U of O student Benjamin Eakin; How Can I Keep from Singing arranged by Bradley Ellingboe; Beati quorum via by Charles Villars Stanford; “Hosanna” from Words from Paradise by Dan Forrest; Cantique de Jean Racine, op. 11 by Gabriel Fauré; O Day Full of Grace by F. Melius Christiansen; Tanzen und Springen by Hans Leo Hassler; Der Tanz by Franz Schubert; Au joly jeu by Clément Jannequin; a set of Children’s Songs by Adam Stanley; MLK by U2/arr. Chilcott; and Tambur by arranged by Lajos Bárdos.
