Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks baseball team split in a Sunday non-conference two-game series with Rhodes College in Clarksville.
Rhodes College (2-1, 0-0) jumped on the Eagles earlier in the contest as they scored four runs in the second and three runs in the third to propel them to a 15-6 victory in game one. Going into the bottom of the third, Rhodes held an 8-0 lead before Ozarks (2-3, 0-0) scored four runs of their own. That inning was highlighted by a two-RBI double by Robby Finnell. Rhodes, however, would closeout the game when they put seven runs on the board in the sixth inning. Both teams collected 13 hits. Todd Koch and Tim Renshaw went 3-for-4 at the plate. Renshaw and Finnell had two RBI apiece. Freshman John Scheuring (0-1) took the loss after pitching one and two-third innings. The second game of the double-header was all Ozarks as the Eagles pounded out 18 hits in route to a 14-1 win. The Eagles held an 8-0 lead after three innings behind eight hits. In the second, Justin Brown homered and Brian Heckmann picked up two RBI and Brett Hays added one RBI to give Ozarks control of the contest. With Ozarks leading 9-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, Hays knocked in two more runs and Anthony Brandon added an RBI-double to give the Eagles a 12-1 advantage. Hays paced Ozarks at the plate going 5-for-5 with four RBI. Heckmann followed with a 3-for-4 performance and two RBI. Heckmann and Jimmy Pannell each had three runs. Brandon finished with three RBI. Curt Dixon (1-1) picked up the win cruising through six innings and striking out five. Dixon gave up just one earned run.
