Baseball All-Conference Honors Announced

Clarksville, Ark.-Five University of the Ozarks baseball players were named to the American Southwest Conference All-East Division Team, the ASC office announced Tuesday.

Senior shortstop Mitchell Powers, sophomore catcher Sam Shook and junior rightfielder Freddy Prince were named to the All-East Division First Team. Senior second baseman Nick Brill and sophomore utility player Taylor Parker earned All-East Division Honorable Mention.

Powers, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound native of North Little Rock, Ark., finished second on the team in batting (.338) and runs (27), third in hits (49), fourth in total bases (54) and fifth in RBI (16) and doubles (5). He recorded 12 multiple-hit games and had six three-hit games. Against Hardin-Simmons, he went 3-for-3 with two RBI. He finishes his career as a four-time All-Conference performer.

Shook, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound native of Katy, Texas, led the team in doubles (12), runs (29) and home runs (2). He ranked third in batting (.333) and second in RBI (23), hits (52) and total bases (70). His 12 doubles ranked third in the conference. He compiled 14 multiple-hit games and owned the team’s longest hitting streak at 17 games. In 39 starts, he hit safely in 32 games. He posted four three-hit games and drove in four runs against Central Baptist College.

Prince, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound native of Jonesboro, Ark., won the league’s batting title with a .406 average. Prince also led the league in hits with 63. Additionally, he led the team in total bases (77), slugging percentage (.497) and on-base percentage (.466). He finished second in doubles (11) and runs (27), and third in RBI (22). His 77 total bases ranked seventh in the conference, while his on-base percentage and slugging percentage ranked sixth and tenth, respectively. Prince led the team with 20 multiple-hit games and owned a 13-game hit streak during the season. He posted six three-hit games and went 5-for-6 with three RBI against nationally-ranked Texas-Tyler on March 29.

Brill, a 6-foot, 195-pound native of Siloam Springs, Ark., led the team with 32 RBI while ranking third in hits (49), doubles (7), runs (25) and total bases (56). He was fourth in batting (.329). His 32 RBI ranked eighth in the conference. He posted 12 multiple-hit games and led the team with nine multiple-RBI games. He hit safely in 33 games and had four three-hit contests. He drove in 5 RBI against Texas-Dallas March 9 and went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI against Huntingdon. He finishes his career as a two-time All-Conference Performer.

Parker, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound native of Hot Springs, Ark., owned a .314 batting average, sixth on the team, and recorded 33 hits with 15 RBI. He led the team with two home runs and his .410 slugging average ranked third on the team. Parker had nine multiple-hit games. Against Austin College, he went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI and two home runs.
