Atkins elected president of SGA

Clarksville, Ark. --- Sean Atkins, a senior political science and strategic communications major from LaGrange, Ky., has been elected Student Government Association (SGA) president for the 2010-2011 academic year by his University of the Ozarks classmates.

Sean Atkins, of LaGrange, Ky., has been elected Student Government Association (SGA) president for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Campus elections for next year’s officer positions were held recently for SGA, as well as for the Campus Activities Board (CAB), Residential Housing Association (RHA) and the Peer Judicial Board.

Atkins, who served as vice president of SGA during the 2009-2010 year, is also president of the university’s College Republicans and is a member of SCM Studio, the student organization for strategic communication majors.

Atkins said one of his main goals is to “continue to improve the communications and relationships between students and the administration. It can only benefit both sides if the administration knows what we’re thinking and we know what they’re thinking.”

Other SGA winners were, Joyce Wong for vice president, Mayra Hoch for treasurer, and Samantha Reed for secretary.

SGA senators at-large who were elected included, Ana Hernandez, Morgan O’Neil, Alice Soisouvanh, Rebekah Reed, Derek “Bill” Eldridge, Emily Towe, Stephen Adams, Amanda Lawman, Briar Vona, Naima Lopez, Chuong Do and Katrina Anissa Mariswamy.

In CAB elections, Meagan Ponseigo was elected president, and August Laue was chosen as vice president. In RHA elections, Tyler Wilson was elected president and Corey Bailey vice president. In Peer Judicial Board elections, Megan FinCannon was elected chair and Rebecca Groff was chosen as vice chair.
