Clarksville, Ark. --- Russellville artist Keliy Anderson-Staley will present an exhibit of her photography at University of the Ozarks' Stephens Gallery throughout the month of February as part of the university's Artist of the Month series.
Anderson-Staley, who earned her master’s of fine arts degree from Hunter College in New York, is an adjunct instructor in photography at Arkansas Tech University. She has also taught at Bowdoin College in Maine, Hampshire College in Massachusetts and the Center for Alternative Photography in New York City.
Tintype portraits such as these will be a part of the exhibit titled “Keliy Anderson-Staley: Photographic Objects” that will be featured in the Stephens Gallery throughout February as part of the university’s Artist of the Month series. Anderson-Staley is an adjunct instructor in photography at Arkansas Tech University.
Anderson-Staley said her exhibit, titled “Photographic Objects,” brings together three separate projects of hers: “-Americans: Contemporary Tintype Portraits,” “Baking Pan Series: An Incomplete Family History,” and “Imagined Family Heirlooms.”
“All three projects make use of photography as an essential element, but in each case the photographs are used as part of larger installations to create works dealing with themes of identity, family and memory,” she said. “The projects range from pure photography done with historic processes to more sculptural installations. Each project asks us to think about the role that photography plays in our sense of cultural identity, our construction of memories and our connection to family histories.”
Her work has been seen at the California Museum of Photography, the Bronx Museum of Art, the John Cleary Gallery in Houston, Texas Woman’s University, the Print Center in Philadelphia, the Flomenhaft Gallery in New York, the University of New England, the Griffin Museum of Photography in Massachusetts, and the Simmons College Art Gallery in Boston.
The exhibit will run from Feb. 1-25 in the gallery, located in the Walton Fine Arts Center on campus. There will be a reception to meet the artist from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8, in the gallery. The exhibit is free and open to the public on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
