Clarksville, Ark. --- Wayne Shewmake, President of the Arkansas Wildlife Federation, will be on campus on February 16 to speak about current wildlife issues in Arkansas.
The presentation, sponsored by the Ozarks Outdoors program, will take place 10:00 am in the university’s Baldor Auditorium.
The Arkansas Wildlife Federation is an affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation. Founded in 1936, the organization advocates environmental protection while at the same time supporting the sustainable harvest of animals for food and for pleasure. The federation is currently working with other conservation groups and organizations and state officials to preserve and protect water quality in the state, with the goal of establishing a comprehensive state water plan.
Shewmake has been President of the Arkansas Wildlife Federation since September 1, 2009. Prior to that, he served as AWF Treasurer, Vice President, and Board Member. He worked for 35 years with the US Department of Agriculture, volunteered for 28 years as an AGFC hunter education instructor, as well as for the American Red Cross, as part-time Yell County Deputy Sheriff, and as a member of the Dardanelle Tree Advisory Board. He was President of the Yell County Wildlife Federation for 3 years, and is a three time Draw & Fire award winner at the Peeler Gap Shooting Range Law Enforcement Handgun Competition.
