Annual SAAC Meeting Another Success Richardson, Texas -The American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its annual meeting on Monday (Sept. 27) at the Holiday Inn Select-North Dallas hotel. Each of the ASC's 15 member institutions were represented with advisors and student-athletes.
From Ozarks, head men’s and women’s tennis coach Shaun Wiseman served as an advisor. Women’s basketball player Ally Goddard and men’s tennis player Matt Arant were Ozarks’ student-athlete representatives.
The group’s agenda covered topics from the new NCAA Division III Identity to legislative proposals to sportsmanship. It was decided that the date for the fifth annual “Make a Change in 14 Days” loose coin collection charity campaign will be held from January 25-February 7 on the local campuses. The SAAC group participated in team-building games and also joined together to discuss multiple roundtable topics, including structures of meetings on campus and ideas for local community service projects. The student-athletes voted on the ASC Championship T-Shirt Design Challenge entries. The winner will be announced next week.
All student-athletes, advisors and conference staff members in attendance were also interviewed on camera for future promotional videos that will concentrate on the ASC, NCAA Division III and sportsmanship.
ASC/Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III National SAAC Representative and Management Council member Brooks Royer provided notes, and the guest speaker was motivational speaker Bill Deering, who gave a presentation on overcoming adversity.
Mississippi College’s Tamara Mills and Alli Johnson served as co-chairs at the meeting, while Hardin-Simmons’ Tyson Denton and Rachel Simpson handled co-vice chair duties.
