Richardson, TX-The American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its annual meeting on Monday (Sept. 21) at the Holiday Inn Select-North Dallas hotel. Each of the ASC's 15 member institutions were represented with at least one advisor and two student-athletes.
The group’s agenda covered topics from the new conference SAAC Operating Code to legislative proposals to sportsmanship. It was decided that the date for the fourth annual “Make a Change in 14 Days” loose coin collection charity campaign will be held from January 25-February 7 on the campuses. The SAAC group also joined together to discuss multiple roundtable topics, including ideas for local community service projects, and voted on the ASC Championship T-Shirt Design Challenge entries. The winner will be announced later this week.
ASC/Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III National SAAC Representative and Management Council member Brooks Royer provided notes from the national SAAC meeting in Denver, Colo., this summer, and the guest speaker was Rob Miller of Pro Active Coaching, who gave presentations on leadership and sportsmanship. Miller will be traveling to all ASC member campuses over the next five months.
Louisiana College’s Daniel Greenhouse and Joanna Tate served as co-chairs at the meeting, while Texas Lutheran SAAC President Jamie Jahns handled vice-chair duties.
