Annual American Southwest Conference Singles/Doubles Fall Tennis Tournament Set for Tyler, Texas

Tyler, Texas?Tennis teams in the American Southwest Conference will be able to get an early-season look at each other during the annual ASC Singles/Doubles Fall Tournament being hosted by the University of Texas at Tyler on Thursday-Saturday (Sept. 13-15).

The tourney, being played in September for the eighth straight year, will feature a nine-flight singles format for the men and an eight-flight format for the women. The men will play a five-flight doubles format, while the women will go four.

UT Tyler’s Chris Bizot will serve as the host head coach.

“We look forward to having our fellow conference teams in Tyler for a great weekend of tennis,” Bizot said. “We also look forward to kicking off the season.”

Matches will be held at various sites around Tyler, including the Patriots’ home courts at Summers Tennis Center, Tyler Tennis and Swim Club, All Saints School and Willow Brooks Community College.
Singles and doubles action will begin at 3 p.m. on Thursday, with play resuming at 8 a.m. on Friday.

Both singles and doubles championships are slated for Saturday. Action that day also gets going at 8 a.m.

The complete draws will be released Thursday on ASCsports.org and UTTylerPatriots.com.

NOTES: Texas-Tyler is five-time defending conference champions on both the men’s and women’s side. . . . The 2013 ASC Tennis Championships – which determines the conference champion and automatic qualifiers in the NCAA Division III tournaments – will be held April 26-28 at the site of the men’s West Division No. 1 seed. . . . Many reining all-conference team players will be in action this week, including Bishop Bass, Scott Eibes, Todd Turner and Michael Skimbo of Ozarks; Kevin Singer, Edward Timponi, Rob Hodous, Doug Kierstead, Joey Hendrie and Ryan Spencer of Texas-Tyler; and Jacob Womack, Matthew Martin and Dudley Lampton of Mississippi College on the men’s side. Amy Friesenhahn (East Division Most Valuable Player), Jennifer Payne and Jessica Blundell of Texas-Tyler will represent the women. . . .
