Clarksville, Ark.-The quick-shooting Concordia University Texas Tornados used a fast-paced offense and a strong second half shooting performance to down the Eagles 102-90 in American Southwest Conference play on Thursday night.
Concordia (7-5, 6-2) rarely let the shot clock run below twenty seconds on most of their offensive possessions, allowing them to hold off the equally up-tempo minded Eagles. Ozarks (5-6, 2-4) held the lead for a good portion of the first half, including building a 27-19 advantage at the 10:05 mark. The Tornados quickly came back on a 24-4 run over a six-minute span to hold a 43-31 advantage. The Eagles, however, wouldn’t go away, as they scored 12 straight points, capped by a Tony Brock three-pointer, to tie the contest at 43-43. Concordia ended the half with a 50-46 lead, and then went on to shoot 19-of-27 (70%) from the floor in the second half to hold off Ozarks. Concordia held a 80-67 lead with 9:18 remaining, but the Eagles fought back to within 94-90 when Andre Williams made a jumper with 3:08 remaining. Ozarks then went cold going 0-for-4 in the final three minutes of the game.
Habeeb Kareem led Ozarks with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Daniels finished with 13 points, and Chris Clark and Chris Williams added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
