University of the Ozarks will award bachelor degrees to the largest graduating class in its 185-year history during the 2019 Spring Commencement, scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, May 18, on the campus mall.

The Class of 2019 is expected to include 131 graduates, the largest known number since the University was founded in 1834.

A Baccalaureate service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 17, in Munger-Wilson Chapel, followed by the Brick Ceremony on the campus mall. Families of the graduates are invited to attend Friday’s events.

Dr. Jeannie Oliver, a 1992 Ozarks graduate and an educator and evangelist from Horn Lake, Mississippi, will serve as the keynote speaker during Commencement.

Oliver serves as a professional academic advisor in the College of Education & Behavioral Science at Arkansas State University. She also teaches online classes in speech communication at A-State and Arkansas Tech University.

Describing herself as a life-long learner, Oliver has a master’s degree in speech communication from A-State and an Ed.D. in higher education leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She has taught at various universities and community colleges in Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee and served as campus dean at Strayer University in Memphis and as academic advising coordinator for A-State Mid-South Community College in West Memphis, Arkansas.  In the early 2000s, Dr. Oliver started the nonprofit ministry, Women Without Walls, which works to empower women through God’s scripture.

The student’s welcome at Commencement will be provided by Angie Castro, a strategic communication major from El Salvador.

University Chaplain Rev. Jeremy Wilhelmi will provide the proclamation during the Baccalaureate service.
