Stewart Dippel, Ph.D.

I have my BA from Miami University with a double major in History and English; MA from Miami in History; PhD from Ohio State in History.

I started teaching college classes in January of 1976. I’ve taught at community colleges, four year liberal arts colleges, universities, and Attica Prison. Since 1992 I’ve done my teaching here.

My teaching focus has been on political thought, politics and culture, and law.

My research focus has been on religious history—mostly England during the 17th century. I’ve written and published five books in this area.

Special Projects / Initiatives

Currently, I’m editing a book on 18th century British parliamentary history.

My approach towards teaching is to, as much as possible, enter into a dialogue with my students; to become part of their story.  That way I can help them sort their choices.  As much as possible, I try to base classes on discussion and to know something about their lives outside of classes.  The more I know about their stories the more I can help them.
