I am a native of Buckhannon, WV, a small town in central Appalachia where I also attended West Virginia Wesleyan College. In 2014 I obtained my BS in Exercise Science. After my undergraduate studies, I attended West Virginia University where I earned a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology. Working under Dr. Paul Chantler, my MS thesis focused on utilizing aerobic exercise training as an intervention for the comorbid sate of metabolic syndrome and chronic anxiety. While completing my MS, I enrolled in a graduate course in nutrition with Dr. Janet Tou. This elective course resulted in my pursuing a PhD in Human Nutrition with Dr. Tou. My doctoral research was on repurposing apple pomace, a waste product from processing apples, as a novel nutritive aid for pediatric non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

During my doctoral studies I also obtained a Certificate in University Teaching, working alongside WVU’s Teaching and Learning Commons director, Dr. Amy Kuhn, to become a better college educator. I was drawn to University of the Ozarks due to my desire to teach at a small, liberal arts college and its close proximity to bountiful outdoor activities.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, attending concerts, playing sports and music, video games, and staying active.  

Special Projects / Initiatives

I intend to maintain an active partnership with the Tou Lab, to continue to search for ways we can improve human health and improve sustainability. I also have an interest in the interplay between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and alcoholic liver disease and plan to engage in projects exploring that interaction. I am always open to collaborations with other faculty and researchers, at U of O, and at college, universities, and research centers across the nation. Most of all, I am passionate about discovering ways to expose undergraduate students to scientific research.
