In the spirit of the Easter season, members of the student organizations Presbyterian Campus Ministries (PCM) and Young Democrats put together dozens of Easter baskets for underprivileged children in the community.

Cameron Coker, a junior history major from Russellville, Ark. and president of both PCM and Young Democrats, organized the donation and delivery process.

"We felt this project was important because it provided a little holiday cheer to kids who weren’t likely to have a memorable Easter.  PCM and Young Democrats are always looking to give back to the community," Coker said.

While the idea originated with Young Democrats, the two organizations decided their efforts would be most impactful if they joined forces.

"The idea originally came from the vice president of Young Democrats, Tara Richards. We knew we wanted to do a charity event for Easter. We decided the best way was to combine efforts with PCM and work with local Presbyterian churches as well," Coker explained.

The groups gathered donations of baskets, plastic eggs, candy, and monetary contributions throughout the month of March and were able to put together 50 Easter baskets for children in Johnson County. The groups worked with Interfaith, a local charitable organization operated out of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville, to deliver the baskets.

"We worked with Interfaith to get the names of 50 underprivileged children in the area. We dropped the baskets off at Interfaith today, and they will distribute them to the children on Good Friday," Coker said.
